i have always wanted a schwinn phantom, but they are extremely expensive. i am thinking about making my own completely custom tank bike with whatever i can find or get extremely cheap. i think it will look pretty sweet if it goes according to plan!

here's my starting point. it's not much, but i will make it work. since the picture has been taken, i have cut the chain off, and removed the derailleurs and the wheels as well as the crank. Attachments:

here is another bike i'm using for parts. it is only about 3 years old, but the wheels i have on it are from the late 1970's; this is probably why not many people have been interested in it. so instead of scrapping it or selling it extremely cheap, i am going to use parts like the fenders, wheels, bars, etc. then, i might make the frame into some kind of trail bike or something, i don't know. The magna frame is turning into a 3 speed race bike, and the shogun is getting lengthened to fit a Tecumseh 5hp mini bike motor, I'm mimicking an early 1900's style motorcycle. Since this project is replacing the tank bike project, this thread will follow the motorcycle build.

I have gathered some frames, I am now going to start some planning / blueprinting so I can start building. Since I am going to keep the crank on it, it will be rideable on the street with no registration needed. Right now I have 5 frames I am going to use: a 26" ross 3spd, a 24" Columbia roadrunner, a mens 26" AMC, a 26" Murray Monterey, and a Schwinn collegiate sport that I will only use if I have to. I pulled a Tecumseh 5hp (75cc) engine with kill switch and twist throttle from my mini bike so I can make sure I have enough clearance for everything. I will definitely post pictures as I start making progress.
